MaJiK Releases the 1st Single from the “I Am Not A Rapper Mixtape”

December 22, 2013 MaJiK will be putting out his 3rd project and first full-length mixtape, the “I Am Not A Rapper Mixtape”

Earlier last week, he released the first single “Forever On…/Do It For Myself” with an official music video shot and directed by Khoi Mai with Dreamzzz Entertainment Group featuring model Tram Nguyen (IG: @tramstop).

The single is a two song feature beginning with “Forever On…” (Originally Forever On Some Fly Shit by Nispey Hussle) which offers a brief background story of MaJiK’s past experiences that have greatly influenced the choices and decisions leading to this release.

Following up with “Do It For Myself” (Originally Inception by Logic), MaJiK discusses why he does what he does reflecting on a character flaw of trying to please everybody while neglecting yourself. Finally understanding what it truly means when asked, “How can you help others if you can’t help yourself?”, the song is a reminder that it’s necessary to be selfish before you can be selfless.

A lot of projects in the work and this is off of my next mixtape tentatively titled “I Am Not A Rapper.” Explanation on the title to come when it’s ready.

MC HINOMARU – BREAK UP -short ver- (Montage Video)

My fellow brethren in music and good friend, MC HINOMARU, and I got together to create a music video to signify his transition to his next chapter in the music industry. MC HINOMARU had planned to take his music career to the next level and promote out in Japan. We got together the night of his final show in the US to create this montage video.

Like myself alike, MC HINOMARU, is always on the grind and striving for higher goals. We had originally planned to do a full music video, but as always time was against us. Arriving at his final show, we both had no idea what to actually film. With a bit of thought we decided the montage route might be the best of choices.

Prior to filming the video, MC HINOMARU had sent me a variety of new songs of his. After gathering footage from the final live performance, I spent some time listening to HINOMARU’s music closely and decided “BREAK UP” was the right choice. The song itself sends a message of of leaving and returning at the same time. Lyrically its one that we can all relate to in some way or another. The continuous piano loop really elevates the song to the next level, make it feel Japanese NUJABES-esque yet multidimensional. MC HINOMARU writes

This lyric was deep for me, and I couldn’t write it without tearing up.

I had a great time working with MC HINOMARU, and hope the best for his music career. He’s very talented with tons of ambition.
