Wassup everyone!
I recently took a few days of vacation to go to LA. I went to take care of some business, handle some deals, and of course spend time with those whom I’ve missed so much. I hadn’t realized how much I missed LA until I had actually arrived. I have been living in Japan for nearly 1 year now. I’m sure many things had changed. Maybe more than anything, myself, and they way I saw life. As you know the culture in Japan has many differences to that of the United States ( ie. the frankness of people, the culture diversity, etc). Regardless I was very excited to visit LA.

皆さん、こんにちは！最近、僕はロスへ行った。三日だけけど、本当に、楽しくやりがいのある経験だった。行ったの理由はビジネスのことや友達を会いたいのことだった。ロスに着いたの前に僕は僕の憧れ名気持ちをぜんぜん知らなかった。でも、ロスに着いて分かった。　今もう一年ぐらい日本に住んだから、多分ロス事や友達が変わった。多分自分が変わった。　ご存知のように,　アメリカの文化と日本の文化は多少違う。ロスは本当に楽しかった.。

Sayuri Else Live @ 2nd Street Jazz

Sayuri Elsie, is a upcoming L.A. local soul singer that comes with a wide story. Facing the tough life in L.A. country and traveling to Japan to live a separate life, Sayuri has a vast story to tell.

I first met Sayuri at a monthly Hip Hop event thrown by DJ WAX entitled “Beat Canves”. The event was full of local Japanese and American talent playing some of the most soulful music. During the performance of a couple DJs and this beat making group called Circus, there was a girl who was just jamming along on the dance floor. Come to find out, this girl was Sayuri Elsie. She lipsynced one of her songs, which was produced by one of the members of Circus. After meeting her and hearing her story, I realized she had a little bit more soul then your average.

Check out her live performances at 2nd Street Jazz during the New Year Celebration. Sayuri has tons of energy in her performance and great stage presence.

MaJiK – Making History [Music Video]

Check out the new release from SBC artist, MaJiK! “Making History”
MaJiK had contacted me to help him produce a entry for the “So You Think You Can Rap” contest (Hosted by Prince Ea and Mike Kalombo) . I replied saying “shoot me an e-mail with all the details and I’ll get back to you”. On a Sunday, MaJiK came down to the studio to record the track. I hadn’t heard the track until then. It was interesting different, but I knew it was going to take some time to get used to. After a few hours, we had finally gotten the recording down and it was time to mixdown the track!

I sent MaJiK home to change while I mixed and came up with the treatment for the music video. Since the overall vibe of the song was a bit dark, especially with the dubstep qualities, I felt a industrial location would be perfect. And I knew of a perfect location in Industry, CA. I had originally planned to shoot the video at dawn, but I kept forgetting all my equipment back at the lab. After countless trips back and forth the sun had completely set and the vibe of the location had drastically changed.

Once the shooting was complete I headed home to edit the video and came up with a rough edit that night. I was aiming for a very grime/industrial look to fit the overall vibe of the song. I thought it came out well. My favorite shoots were the shots of MaJiK’s silhouette doing large hand gestures.
